This is what Science needs to do
I was gifted with an inherent curiosity about
the world, how it works , why it worked, how
energy and mass where somehow related .....
I was in short into science. There really 2
sections of science and 2 kinds of scientific
work 1. those who explain the way things are/where
and those who are messing round new stuff and these
people are my favourite because whenever they find
something new they ask "what will we do with it now"
Now the whole DNA "Thing" has been in the works for decades
now, we discovered DNA and started finding out how it worked
what I did and then Scientists asked themselves what they were
going to do with it . Some went towards find cures and preventative
methods (gene therapy), some set about creating designer babies
Someone however has put his/her (most likely their) time into this :
http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/nationworld/2008413077_mammoth20.html
Cloning from DNA brings up all kinds of ethical questions about playing god
and identity and a persons soul. But surly in the case of a long extinct
animal there's a greater good.
Imagine if they really did it, brought a woolly mammoth to life!
Imagine seeing one on the news when the host elephant gives birth
There’d be a webcam on it 24/7 every birthday we'd get an update.
Maybe they'd do a Zoo tour with him/her and everyone could actually
see a mammoth in the flesh (and hair).
I don't know if this is as exciting for others as it is for me
as someone who spent much of there time (age 7 - 12) flicking
through dinosaur magazines, but I realty think this is something
that would capture everyone's imagination. Whenever science fiction
becomes real everyone takes notice with a childlike enthusiasm.
Murphy’s law states "Any sufficiently future based technology is
indistinguishable from magic"
If the internet can bring back the Wispa
maybe it can bring back the Mammoth too

Am I the only one who thinks this is very very funny
Credit crunch,
Economic recession,
and increasing violence on the streets
it's no wonder....

Hello My Blog Shaped Friend
So the other day I put a post about a bit
of software I'd like to see written (by someone else)
and Gally left a comment about a road block for the idea
which in turn sent the developer in me search for a work
around.
Point is I know some smart imaginative ppl and I'm board
so I'm dedicating this post to the creative and intelligent
nature of my friends (I hope this isn't reading sarcastically (-;)
So here's what's happening I'm going to list a topic and I want you
opinion on the topic , but it must be exactly 3 word and no more
though shall not shall not use 4 words or use 2 words unless they
be followed by a third ...five is way out !
1. How I'd tackle the economy :
2. How I'd improve social networking (bebo facebook etc):
3. Web 3.0 will be all about :
4. Irish ppl should react will _ _ _ to the many cultures coming here to live
5. Spurs need to :
6. The biggest difference between and women (keep it clean):
7. The biggest problem in Ireland is :
8. For me Christmas means :
9. Sean is awesome cos :
Look forward to seeing the comments

Ok seriously fantastic idea for a bit of software.
Just thought of this one as i was day dreaming of
returning to Tenerife to sunshine and cheap beer.
Here's the idea:
- A web app or desktop app
- 2 calendar controls + 1 text box
- User enters dates in calendar controls + sum of money in Textbox
- apps then uses a serious of http post/response commands
- http cmds are sent to RyanAir web site to check for flight between
Dates which are = or < amount entered.
This saves user a lot of hassle and could eb automated to run between
today’s date to a certain range thus allowing holiday makers with a
destination in mind to keep an eye out for cheap holidays in advance of time.
An addition an extra drop down menu could “screen scrape” the departure
location and destinations from the web site
This approach could be used for several other sites where prices
are dynamic.

My Brilliant Idea
as a place to explain some of the many ingenious
ideas I have over the course of the day(see first few
posts)
Well I've gone and had another stroke of solution
designing brilliance. Here's my idea for a fruit/veg
peeler that will change the way you think about peeling
fruit/veg
The design of the device (pics to be uploaded soon)
is based on that of a pencil pairer, and therein
lies the brilliance. Basically the device is a large
pencil pairer with the ability to dynamically
change the distance between the blades as well
as tilt the blades at an angle.
This means all you have to do is line up the blades
with the fruit/veg your trying to peel give it 1 full turn
possible with a supplied handle , and it's done.
For larger restaurant operations several several
pieces could be loaded onto the handle and loaded
into the peeler one after the other .
In future version eh blades could use sensors to
align themselves with the fruit/veg. and the handle
could turn automatically. In fact the user could just
have to load a bunch of fruit/veg onto a stick attached
to the handle place it in the device and wait a couple of
seconds for perfectly peeled veg.
Awesome !!

My 2 cents on College fees
1. By introducing fees you put higher education out
out reach of the lower income families thus creting
a social divide which is destined to become wider by generation
2. As a country trying to establish itself as a skilled economy
It makes no sense to make those kills less obtainable.

IT is funny/sad sometimes
asked about the mythical "Any key" and broken "cup holders"
But it did make me smile to today when I found a file in a
root folder of one of the major systems where i work called
DeleteMe.txt which was empty.
Is this the height of laziness or
a cry for help from an unhappy file
that can't take this crazy world anymore.
Either way these thing do help the working day go by
so before I went on my way I renamed the file "Everything's ok"
This Ironically could break something.
Ah well I hope I cheered it up if only for a while

Cheer up little guy

Yet another brilliant idea
A check (based on the conditions) can be schedule
Example :
User enters a wizard which firstly helps them to choose a dat (lets say a database)
then user chooses which table/field/number of data to monitor
then user enters conditions e.g. fieldno = 2
and finally user decide how and who should be alerted if condition are met
simple but very usefull as a way of checking if automated task are running successfully
another dollar idea
